Think Outside the Album: Valentine’s Day Treats

Happy almost Valentine’s Day, my sweet scrappy friends!

As we approach the month of February, I’ve been thinking about all the ways we can use our digital scrapbooking supplies from the Sweet Shoppe to make this Valentine’s Day extra special. Whether you’re helping a child prepare Valentines for everyone in their class, creating something sweet for an adult child away at college, or creating little treats for the special people in your life, I’ve got lots of ideas for you!

It’s time for the Valentine’s Day-themed installment of Think Outside the Album, where we look at different ways to take our digital supplies off the scrapbook page and instead, use them to make the rest of our world just a little bit sweeter.

Today, we’re going to look at three projects that work beautifully for Valentine’s Day, all of which have been previously written up in detail here on the SSD blog. I’ll introduce each project and show you what I’ve done to put a Valentine’s Day spin on it, and then link you to the original blog post with the step-by-step instructions. Let’s get started!

Project #1 – Lollipop Covers

Last October, I showed you how to dress up basic lollipops with custom covers, turning a simple store-bought treat into a cute, creative seasonal goodie. That project translates beautifully from Halloween to Valentine’s Day when you choose love-themed kits and supplies from the Sweet Shoppe.

For my first set of lollipops, I chose the oh-so-cute Bugs & Kisses kit by lliella designs:

For my second set of lollipops, I wanted to go with something a little less feminine and a little more masculine – something my husband would enjoy receiving. For these, I started with the love-themed Layered Stickers & Stamps by Cindy Schneider:

Project #2 – Custom Candy Bar Wrapper

In our very first edition of “Think Outside the Album”, posted in May 2022, I shared how to create a custom wrapper for any candy bar. It’s a super versatile project, and it’s one of my favorites for creating Valentine’s treats.

HINT: If you’re having trouble getting started with your design, pick out a layered template! Even though it’s designed for a 12″ x 12″ canvas, you can resize it and isolate just the portions of the template you want to use. For my first candy bar wrapper, I used the top left template in A Sweet Day: Page Drafts by The Nifty Pixel, and simply replaced the photo blocks with a journaling card (on the left) and a decorative item (the truck sticker, on the right).

Then I printed it out and wrapped it around a Hershey’s bar, and here’s the final result:

If you’ve got a friend who dreads Valentine’s Day, why not whip up a custom candy bar wrapper to make them smile? I used the funny and sarcastic digital kit Valentine’s Day Blahs by Blagovesta Gosheva to create this one:

What a fun way to remind a friend that you love them no matter what!

Project #3 – Treat Bag topper

As much as we love giving “sweets to the sweet” on Valentine’s Day, there are times it’s appropriate to gift a non-edible treat. Whether the recipient has health reasons to avoid sugar and carbohydrates or if they’re focused on their diet and fitness, you absolutely can give them a Valentine’s goodie that won’t derail their health goals. Gather together some small goodies similar to what you might put in a Christmas stocking – Chapstick, fun pens or pencils, a heart-shaped stress ball, a keychain, and a fidget spinner, for example – and slip them into a sandwich-size Ziploc bag. Then open your favorite digital design software and create a custom goodie bag topper to pull it all together!

You can make the exact same goodie bag contents look drastically different based on your choice of digital supplies. I wanted to make my second bag topper a little more fancy, so I chose the Amour a Paris bundles by Simple Pleasure Designs and combined it with a layered scrapbook page template from Butterflies in My Stomach by Pink Reptile Designs.

Oooh la la! So fancy!

As you begin your preparations for Valentine’s Day, keep these three projects in mind. They’re easy ways to dress up store-bought treats for classroom Valentines, a collegiate care package, teacher and scout leader thank-you’s, and more. When you use your favorite love-themed kits and supplies from The Sweet Shoppe, you’ll create one-of-a-kind goodies that will add extra sweetness to their Valentine’s Day!

What other ideas do you have for dressing up Valentine’s treats using Sweet Shoppe digital kits and supplies? Tell me in the comment section below and be sure to snap a few photos of your next project to share in the Gallery. I can’t wait to see what you create when you Think Outside the Album!
